A Career Built on People and Performance
My mentor would say, “I know people and dollars.” That simple phrase has guided me throughout my career. I have spent more than 30 years leading in the commercial construction and manufacturing business sectors. Along the way, I have guided organizations through start-ups, high-growth expansions, and complex turnaround situations. What drives me is the ability to understand people, make smart decisions, and turn ideas into measurable results.
Leadership and Business Growth
As an executive leader in the commercial construction industry, I managed areas of business operations including finance, human resources, information technology, legal, insurance, and marketing. During that time, I helped the company achieve an extraordinary 1,100% growth in sales while elevating their reputation in the industry.
Earlier in my career I served in leadership roles in both print manufacturing and folding carton packaging while overseeing operations. I have also spent time in business-to-business sales managing accounts across multiple states while building strong client relationships.
I began my journey in the printing industry working my way up from duplicator operator to Vice President of Operations over a 14-year span. That hands-on experience gave me a deep understanding of production and operations knowledge I still draw on when helping others solve business challenges.
My Approach to Leadership
I am known for being dedicated, detailed, methodical, and resourceful as there is no choice but to deliver results. I am steady under pressure and have a “get it done right” attitude, no shortcuts.
At the same time, I care deeply about the development of the people I work with. I hold those I lead to high standards because I want people to grow and succeed. Many of my current and former colleagues still call me “Coach” because I have always been invested in their progress as individuals.
Besides operations, I also bring strengths in sales, marketing, market research, and data analytics. I have always enjoyed turning concepts into reality, whether it is a new strategy, a growth initiative, or a shift in market positioning.
A Personal Journey of Resilience
My professional life is only part of my story. Life has tested me in ways that shaped my resilience and perspective.
I became a father at 17, which gave me responsibility and determination early in life. At 25, my partner was in a devastating car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury. At 38, I lost my brother and only sibling unexpectedly to influenza.
Then, at 46, I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. I went through forty-two rounds of chemotherapy and six surgeries (including a lifesaving live-donor liver transplant in which my son was my donor).
Through all of this I worked hard to keep my struggles from overwhelming my family and colleagues. I have always understood the importance staying present as a husband, father, and leader both physically and emotionally.
Community, Character, and Values
Beyond business, I believe in being a good neighbor and giving back. I am a philanthropist supporting local charities; and as a neighbor I am friendly, outgoing, and always willing to help. Whether it is lending a tool, giving a hand, or simply checking in on someone, I value community connection.
I prioritize living with gratitude and respect. I hold doors open for strangers and appreciate the work others do no matter how big or small. To me, leadership is not just about results in business, it is about the way we treat people every day when others are not looking.
