Understanding the Fundamentals of New York Prevailing Wage

Working on public work projects in New York can create opportunities for contractors, but it also comes with additional responsibilities. Prevailing wage requirements affect payroll, recordkeeping, bidding, project administration, and compliance.

Prevailing Wage 101 is a practical, two-hour introductory class designed to help contractors and their staff better understand the fundamentals of prevailing wage work in New York State.

This is not a legal seminar. It is a real-world business class focused on helping participants understand the terminology, processes, documentation, and day-to-day responsibilities they are likely to encounter when working on prevailing wage projects.

Who Should Attend?

Prevailing Wage 101 is designed for contractors and business professionals who are new to prevailing wage work, considering entering the public works market, or looking for a better understanding of the administrative responsibilities associated with these projects.

The class may be particularly valuable for business owners, project managers, payroll and accounting staff, office managers, administrators, estimators, and other employees responsible for supporting prevailing wage projects.

No previous prevailing wage experience is required.

Why This Class?

Prevailing wage compliance involves much more than simply paying an employee a different hourly rate. Contractors need to understand classifications, supplemental benefits, certified payroll reporting, recordkeeping, and the administrative requirements that accompany public work.

For a company entering this market for the first time, the learning curve can be significant.

This class is intended to make that learning curve a little easier by breaking the fundamentals into practical, understandable pieces and providing an environment where participants can ask questions, discuss real-world situations, and learn from one another.

Small Class, Real Conversation.

Classes at the CollineIQ Business Resource Center are intentionally kept small. Prevailing Wage 101 is limited to ten participants, creating an environment where attendees can participate in the conversation, ask questions, and discuss situations they encounter in their own businesses.

The objective isn’t simply to sit through a presentation. It is to leave with a better understanding of the subject and information you can put to work.
